Chicken Run
Year: 2000
Duration: 1h24
Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy
Director: Peter Lord, Nick Park
Animals fighting for their freedom – if our page were to be a movie, this would be the one, no doubt. The plot focuses on a flock of hens, doomed to a life of just laying eggs and… becoming food products for human. One day, a performance rooster arrives at the farm, and he might just be the escape ticket for them all. The highest grossing stop motion animated film in history (by 2005). We are just going to drop this little piece of info here, you will be your own judge.
Wallace and Gromit – the series and the movie
Year: 1989 (first short film) – 2010
Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy
Director: Nick Park
You’ve got a good eye! It’s the same director for Chicken Run. This time, it’s about a scientist inventor Wallace and his dog Gromit, living in a British setting. Get ready to be swoon over the witty humour and fun adventures of these two besties. Their day-to-day problems involve running out of cheese for crackers and solving it by going to the … moon to get some more. No, the moon doesn’t have a cheese store, it’s just yellow and shaped like one? (get it!). And if each 21-mins short episode doesn’t satisfy you, start right away with The Curse of the Were-Rabbit movie, spoooookyyyyy.
A Bug’s Life
Year: 1998
Duration: 1h35
Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy
Director: John Lasseter, Andrew Stanton
A movie we would show our kids, and their kids, and theirrr kiddds. Because it’s just that good. The movie focuses on Flik, an “odd” ant who is mistreated by the rest of his clan for being “different”, but really he’s just incredibly creative. Flik is sent out on a fake “mission” by his clan to save them all from getting bullied by bigger bugs. In reality, they just wanted to get rid of him. We will let you discover the rest by yourself, we already spilled more tea than we should’ve. But only because it’s seriously that good.
Stuart Little
Year: 1999
Duration: 1h24
Genre: Adventure, Comedy, Family
Director: Rob Minkoff
Just by looking at the cover, you can tell that it’s about the life of a cute little mouse named Stuart. One thing to say: he’s getting adopted into a family, (no not as a pet), but as a human boy’s brother. If that doesn’t intrigue you, we don’t know what will. And for real, you will be impressed with 1999 CGI effects.
Hachi: A Dog’s Tale
Year: 2009
Duration: 1h33
Genre: Drama, Family
Director: Lasse Hallstrom
Be warned: prepare yourself with a box of tissues!!! Major tears guaranteed. And it’s all based on a true story too. Are we here for the cute little Hachi or for Richard Gere? BOTH! duhhh?
Fantastic Mr Fox
Year: 2009
Duration: 1h27
Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy
Director: Wes Anderson
Do we even need to give an introduction? Anything Wes Anderson is involved in screams O-S-C-A-R-S. Ok, so some of us maybe bias towards him. But honestly, who isn’t? Fantastic Mr. Fox is a sweet little stop motion treat, flavorful in color and rich in story. We won’t say anymore than that the voiceover cast includes: George Clooney, Meryl Streep and Bill Murray. What a banger spread.
Isle of Dogs
Year: 2018
Duration: 1h41
Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy
Director: Wes Anderson
Same genius director, same stop motion style, but instead of Fox, it’s Dog. And instead of western, it’s eastern, Japan to be exact. The story follows a boy’s long journey to search for his lost dog. A better love story than Twilight, we promise.
